Hario V60 Brew Guide
The V60 is one of the most rewarding ways to brew specialty coffee. It rewards patience and precision with a clean, bright cup that lets the bean's character shine.
What You'll Need
- Hario V60 dripper and filter
- Fresh specialty coffee beans
- Gooseneck kettle
- Kitchen scale
- Timer
- Your favorite mug or server
Recipe
- Coffee: 15g
- Water: 250ml
- Water temperature: 93°C (just off the boil)
- Grind size: Medium-fine
- Total brew time: 3–3.5 minutes
- Yield: 1 cup
Steps
Rinse the paper filter with hot water and discard the rinse water. This removes any papery taste and preheats your dripper.
Add 15g of freshly ground coffee. Give it a gentle shake to level the bed.
Start your timer and pour 30ml of water evenly over the grounds. Let it bloom for 30 seconds — you'll see the coffee puff up and release gas.
At 0:30, slowly pour in circles up to 150ml total. Keep the pour steady and avoid pouring on the filter walls.
At 1:15, continue pouring up to 250ml total. Maintain a slow, controlled spiral from center to edge.
Let the water fully drain. Your total brew time should be around 3–3.5 minutes.
Serve immediately and enjoy.
Tips
Freshly roasted beans make a noticeable difference. For best results, use beans within 2–4 weeks of the roast date.
If your brew finishes too fast (under 2:30), grind finer. If it's too slow (over 4 minutes), grind coarser.
The V60 pairs beautifully with our bright and fruity single origins — the clean brew method lets floral and fruit notes come through clearly.
